Milan has become one of the most popular Erasmus destinations in Europe. Its universities are strong, the job market is the most dynamic in Italy and the city is easy to explore. The hard part is housing: here's how to get it right.
The Erasmus semesters run September–February and February–July. Start your search as soon as your nomination is confirmed: good flats for a semester go 2–3 months in advance.
A furnished room in a shared flat often costs €600–900 per month; a whole studio or one-bedroom flat well connected by metro typically €1,500–2,500 per month. Always compare the total: many listings exclude bills, Wi-Fi and agency fees.
For a semester the usual contract is a transitional lease with the reason "study" documented by your enrolment or Learning Agreement. It must be registered with the tax office: ask for a copy, you may need it for your residence permit or scholarship. Read our guide to the transitional lease.
